All teenagers need a supportive and understanding environment
Especially when they are going through a difficult period in their lives. But it is often difficult for those around trans teenagers to understand what they are going through. With the Gen-me game, those around trans teenagers get a better understanding of what they are going through by stepping into their shoes.
How do you do that?
Through the app, players will receive questions about different topics like gender, gender dysphoria, sexuality, discrimination, and healthcare. Before starting the game, they can choose which topics they want to discuss. With every question, the players get two options: 'No idea' and 'Told!' For telling about their experience, the players receive points. Another player gets the same question. This way, the players learn how the question relates to the other player, or if they haven't had any experience regarding the question.
What kind of questions?
The questions relate to problems that many trans people face in their lives, but the questions are asked in such a way that everyone could identify with them. There are serious and at first sight less serious questions. At the end of each round there is a bonus round in which the players must rank each other. This can lead to serious, but also funny discussions.
How do you win?
Of course, the purpose of the game is not to win, but the point system motivates people to think carefully about the questions. The player with the most points at the end wins! The game can also be played with a game board. In this case, the points the players receive are steps they can move on the board. This makes for a more enjoyable playing experience.
